Today March 28th is the 12th anniversary of the opening of Dangerfield & Keane – Hair Salon & Beauty Suite. We opened with the original team of Gill, Mandy, Mo, another trainee and myself Gerri. Vikki then opened the Beauty Suite a couple of weeks later. Within about 8 weeks the lovely Shaun who you all know joined us at front of house. The salon and its reputation grew and more trainees and stylists joined us over time. Some stayed for a short while, some stayed on and are still there.
I live by the belief that people come into your life (even your work life) for either a season, a reason, or a lifetime. Some people move on and thats a good thing, either for them or for you.
Normally at this time of year our clients are served individual celebration cakes for the 2 weeks of our anniversary with their drinks (prosecco on Saturdays) and we always thank the clients who have supported us over the years, as well as our team.
Today is very different for obvious reasons. But also because we received news that one of our clients, we shall just use her 1st name, Sue, has passed away from complications after contracting Covid 19. There are no celebration cakes today, no prosecco or anniversary banners.
The salon has been closed for 1 week so far, with no reopening date in sight.
Sue was meticulous in her appearance, fussy and always grateful for any extra effort we did. She also told me she dabbled in hairdressing in her youth, so I always knew I was being watched closely! She is the 1st person we have lost to this virus, and tonight we will raise a glass to her, but also of course to you…… to all our amazing clients as well as our team, past and present who have crossed our doors.
